Hercules vs The Dandy
Hercules is a Marvel comic written by Stan Lee and illustrated by Jack Kirby, this comic series emerged in the Silver age of comics and has a Greek Mythology essence to the character of Hercules. This comic is of course fictional however the character of Hercules comes from Greek mythology and is known for his strength. The art style of this comic is more realistic and attempts to capture all the features of the character, accentuating his muscles to convey strength, additionally, the colours used are slightly duller to connote the more realistic depth of the storyline. Furthermore, the text used is enclosed within speech bubbles, in black, all capitals, somewhat italic font- using red fonts when a word needs extra emphasis.
The Dandy is a comic written by Dudley D Watkins, Andy Fanton, and Nigel Auchterlounie. This British comic came out in 1937 (just before the golden age of comics) and uses a more comically animated art style. This comic was primarily targeted at children and therefore uses more youthful themes for the storyline and art style. In addition, the colours used throughout are more bright and bold to appeal to young kids as they often enjoy looking at brighter/ happy colours. Finally, the way the characters have been drawn uses less realistic detail and more accentuated features to make the comic more comedic.
